Think You Are Thankful?

Posted on November 24, 2010

I love Christmas.  I am always excited about Christmas.  So, now that our consumer-driven society starts promoting Christmas the day after Halloween, it is fine with me.

Unfortunately, it is so easy to let the Thanksgiving holiday fly by and jump ahead to Christmas.  But the purpose for celebrating Thanksgiving is very important.  Very few of us pause and give thanks as much as we should.  I'm certain most of us have so much for which to be thankful.

So many of us think we are thankful, but we are not genuinely thankful.  How can you tell?  Thankfulness is the foundation for happiness.  If you are not happy, there is a good chance you have not taken proper account for all you have..

The Apostle Paul instructs us in his first letter to the church in Thessalonica, "Be thankful in all circumstances" (1 Thessalonians 5:18).  We know we are supposed to be thankful, but we do not always feel thankful.  I sometimes wish I had certain things.  I see others with these things and think, "Boy, I wish I had that."  Then I think about the time it would take to care for these things and to maintain these things.  I am much more appreciative of the time I have to do more important things with than maintain a bunch of stuff.

This year I lost one of the most significant people in my life, Gary Chester Morse.  I am thankful that I was given the gift of time with him.  I was given much more time with him than so many others.

I am thankful for you, our readers.  Your feedback has been so encouraging.  You give all of us at Men Who Win the desire to "keep pressing on."  We will be sharing more about the results of our recent survey at a later time.  I am thankful for all of you who participated and gave us more insight for the direction of this ministry.

As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week.  I pray you can find so much for which to give thanks.  Your happiness depends on it.
