ROMANCE AND FINANCE
Posted on February 13, 2014Romance - Finance - That is my philosophy of life boiled down into two words. It seems a lot of life’s meaning and purpose is summed up in these two words. Today I want to write to you on the romance side. What is your RQ? You’ve heard of your IQ, your Intelligence Quotient but what about your RQ your Romance
Quotient?
I want you to think about romance in a different way. Our romance starts with our romancing the Godhead. Have you thought of your spiritual life as a romance with the Godhead? Like any romance, if you are not spending quality time with the object of your romance the love interest can wane and grow cold. This can happen in our marriages and in our families because we don’t spend quality time investing in our relationships.
I submit to you that our romance needs to begin with our spiritual relationship of loving the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. You see we love as we are loved. In John 15:9 Jesus says, “Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.” Jesus took time to be loved by the Father. As a result, He was then being filled with the Father’s love, able to love His disciples and as a result these disciples were transformed to love as well.
What about transforming our marriages and our families by first taking the time to romance the Godhead. Spend time with God, loving Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. (Mark 12:29) As we love on the Father and also allow Him to speak to us, encourage us and love on us, we are changed and filled with His love. That is when we have something to really give to our wives and our children.
Romance is a part of life. Men you are made for strength and adventure but you also are made for romance and so was your wife and family. Go deep with your heavenly Father in romancing the Godhead and then let Him fill you up so that you are better prepared to romance your wife and romance your children.
Life is a romance. Work on your RQ. Spend time with God. Open up your life. Tell God your story and let Him talk to you. Take walks with God, take canoe trips with God. Get real, transparent and spend quality time with God. Ask God how you can romance your wife and family. I’m sure He has a lot to show you.
Song of Songs says, “If a man were to give all the riches of his house for love, it would be utterly despised (8:7). Love cannot be purchased but it must be pursued and won. I define romance as to win over by love. Pursue the Godhead and win them over with love. Pursue your wife and family and win them over with your love.
