Ladies, His Becoming What You Want Him Already to Be
Posted on August 26, 2010
Ladies, I'd like your opinion on this.  Please email me. Gary@MenWhoWin.com If you treat a truly saved man as if he is already everything you want him to be, he'll eventually become it.  (This could be true even if he usually behaves more worldly than Godly) Rather than being frustrated with him, focus your prayers toward loving him as if he is already everythin...

My Brain Tumors Are Back
Posted on July 15, 2010
My brain tumors are back and growing. This makes my third battle with brain cancer. I went through hard chemo a few years ago and then high-risk brain surgery and radiation earlier this year. I'm now on a new chemo in hopes it will slow the growth of the tumor, perhaps will even bring it into remission, or maybe even bring a cure (and what about believing for a supernatural miracle!). T...

A Test to Know if your Salvation Is Secure
Posted on June 24, 2010
Some people doubt whether their salvation is secure and genuine. To help determine this, a good question to ask yourself could be this one:  How much to do you think about God as opposed to things of the world (Matt 6:21 & 24 and 1 John 5:21).  How often is your mind on him? For example, do you find yourself in church services thinking about fishing or golfing?&n...

Only One Thing to Take with You to Heaven
Posted on June 10, 2010
Do you know what the only thing is you can take with you to heaven? Before I reply, let's first establish how do you absolutely know if you died today that you personally will go to heaven? Through numerous scriptures, the Bible makes it really clear how to gain eternal life. God created His only begotten son to be the sacrificial offering for your sins. T...

In Remission and On To The Mission
Posted on May 20, 2010
Dear Men Who Win ministry friends: My docs this week pronounced me at this time in remission from cancer.  It was a welcomed report, especially considering this is the third time since '03 I've come into remission after three battles with lymphoma (two of them in the brain). I am convinced that I am where I am today because of the enormo...

Nip An Anger Habit Pt 2
Posted on May 13, 2010
Some years ago God convicted me of my dire need for a radical solution to an anger habit after a blow up with my step-sons in which I temporarily but seriously damaged my relationship with them. God's solution turned out to be found in a book**.   I took from it five truths that I have made an integral part of me.  I periodically review these truths to ...

Nip An Anger Habit
Posted on May 6, 2010
Although my Dad was a really good man, he passed along to me an anger habit.  Even after I became a whole-hearted follower of Christ, the stronghold consistently dogged me and damaged my relationships. Upon each recurrence I'd always be remorseful, but I'd still struggle with anger much more than what I desired (Romans 7:15-16).  What brought ...

The Cool Men Who've Touched your Life
Posted on April 22, 2010
Be the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says, "Oh Crap, he's up".  Brothers, life is too short to wake up with regrets. So, love the people who treat you right, but also love the ones who don't...just because you can.  Believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.  If ...

It's Not God Who Puts that Fear in You
Posted on April 8, 2010
Don't be afraid to face the truth about yourself. God is not the one who puts that fear in you.  That is our common enemy doing that - the big deceiver. Facing the truth about yourself brings only freedom to your life because once you face the truth about yourself, you at that very exact moment are opening yourself to God's unbounding kindness toward you....just as you s...

How One Accountability Friendship Came About
Posted on March 23, 2010
(My blog readers, God has heard your prayers for me in an amazing way, but why should I be surprised!  A golf ball size tumor was successfully removed from my brain just last week, and here I am already writing again after just experiencing multiple life-threatening brain seizures.  Our Lord is truly a God of miracles who rescues those who love and se...

UPDATE: from Jamie Futrell
Posted on March 20, 2010
God is Still in the Miracle Business!   Thank you so much for all your prayer's. Gary's surgery was so successful, that there is no way to explain it other than God. Doctors believe that they were able to remove all of the tumor. Gary was calling people on the phone an hour after his surgery and was able to go home today. We are so thankful and we give all honor to the...

Tight Buds Can Prevent Suicides
Posted on March 13, 2010
Amazingly, suicides now outnumber homicides.**  But why is this?  A major cause is that most people, especially men, don't have an inner circle of confidants - one or two tight buds with whom you can get real with when the props are knocked out from under us.  These brothers serve more than just as a sounding board. Because of their brotherly love, they will also speak tru...

NOTE: from Jamie Futrell
Posted on February 26, 2010
As a reader of Gary's blog, you probably already know that Gary was diagnosed with his second brain tumor in December of 2009.  He started his chemo treatments in January. Recently, Gary and Ro went to Vanderbilt for what they fully expected to be round 3 of 4 rounds of chemo. Unfortunately, the MRI results indicate that his cancer has grown slightly.  Doctors cancelled his c...

SEX: TO ENCOUNTER THE SACRED
Posted on February 18, 2010
For the man whose first sexual experience (which includes most American men) was a visual of a beautiful woman, a vivid imagination, and his hand: this blog may seem beyond possibility?  The reason is that our first sexual encounter was distorted from the get-go, regarding God's original intent of sexual fulfillment and ecstasy. The lengthier and deeper the acts of distortion, the f...

From my Hospital Bed in Nashville

I write this from my hospital bed in Nashville just prior to high dose chemotherapy treatment for my second go-around with tumors in the brain (my third battle with cancer) I want to nail down seven beautiful truths that I've known for years but now are even more part of my core-being as a result of my cancer battles. As someone once said, everything learned is from pain.  God's purp...

Happy Crappy New Year
Posted on December 30, 2009
Should I be having only a Happy Crappy New Year after just learning that malignant tumors are back in my brain? Scans haven't detected anything there for some years.  I was optimistic.  But now, because of new tumor sightings, all bets are off medically-speaking, concerning my future.  This means my "worldly" future is dicey.  My dear Dr. Greer now pure...

Not my Idea of a Very Merry Christmas Gift
Posted on December 21, 2009
I've gotten some chilling personal news here just prior to Christmas, and for about a week now, my soul has lost its courage.  It, however, is being revived from the Lord's inner strengthening and the help of prayers and encouragement of some cherished friends.  This setback may limit the number of blogs from me to you in 2010.  Of course, what I am...

DO REAL MEN GET DEPRESSED?
Posted on December 10, 2009
Many people get depressed during the Christmas holidays, including men.  But what about this idea of a man being in a depression?  Does it seem a little unmanly?  I mean, did you ever see Rambo, Dirty Harry, or the Terminator in a funk?   Depression seems, to many folks, to be strictly a female domain (you know, as in moody), not really a male thing.  At least, th...

Thanksgiving Takes Practice
Posted on November 19, 2009
Thanksgiving takes hard work.  You'd think you would come by it naturally.  But we don't.  I've never met a person who is happy, and who is not immersed in thankful thoughts.  I've found that only those who regularly look on the sunny side have a shine to their lives.   Gratefulness is learned.  And it takes discipline.  It requires practice.  Like br...

Funk Defeated
Posted on November 5, 2009
During our nation's present economic woes, suicides are up significantly.  Money and job problems can push a person prone to depression over the top.   My Dad took his own life because of depression.  My Mom had periodical meltdowns.  Both my grandmother and great grandmother had to be institutionalized at times because of depression.  I'm also prone to me...

Is this America's New Normal?
Posted on October 22, 2009
(I realize this newsletter is a bit outside my normal parameters, but please indulge me.)   Isn't it reassuring to know that the abundant life for Christians doesn't depend on good social and economic conditions?  In the history of the world, social/political conditions have been mostly horrific everywhere for nearly all people.   America has been an exception this rule, ...

LOW LIBIDO MAN
Posted on October 8, 2009
Some men don't have much crank sexually?    While most Christian guys are trying to control unhealthy sexual urges and influences, there is the husband who's not meeting his wife's sexual needs (1 Cor 7:3-5)?   This may be more common than we might think.   But why is it that hardly anyone discusses the man with low libido?  On...
