Meant To Shine
Posted on April 9, 2017
Every moment is a chance to let your light break through. This life was meant to shine. -MercyMe When do we have the most impact with our light? When do we shine the brightest? When we are surrounded by darkness. Darkness is more than sin. It is ...

GOD TO THE RESCUE!
Posted on November 18, 2016
I was getting ready to leave for a business trip in Bristol, VA. I was sharing with the kids just before I left about Psalms 34:19. \"The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all...\" NIV. I was explaining that we can always count on the Lord. It was a promise from Him. In truth, I was teaching them something that I was struggling to believe myself. Right now, we are selling items on eBay and on Amazon. Once an item is sold, it is very important that you... ...

How to address the Holiday Season with family
Posted on December 18, 2015
Many posts and newsletters of this kind tend to talk about how to make the holidays a spiritual time of year. The themes of Thanksgiving and the birth of Christ are easy to write about from a spiritual perspective. But, let\'s be real for a minute, these are the darkest times of the year. For adults and children the holidays remind us that our lives are not Norman Rockwell portraits. Our families and communities are made up of broken people who are hurting and at this time of year are more reminded of how dysfunctional we are today. Therefore, I\'ve taken it upon myself to help you with a strategy. Are there......

LAYING DOWN FEAR
Posted on August 14, 2015
Together, let us lay down our fear - and get over being afraid. God tells us throughout His Word: Be not afraid (Psalms 112:7-8; Isaiah 41:10; John 14:27). But how can we NOT be afraid, when all around us there are calamities pouring down upon humanity? The re-assuring reason that we can, is that the grand plan God has for humans cannot fail, because...

PAIN IS A FRIEND
Posted on July 27, 2015
Get this great truth down, and it\'ll help you deal with life: Everything learned is from pain. Everything else is just information. My friend, Bob Warren, coined this phrase, as he studied various scriptures that attest to it. (Romans 5:3-5 and James 1:2-4). Bob\'s adage is so accurate because......

Avoiding Temptation

AVOIDING STRESS MELTDOWN
Posted on May 6, 2015
100 mph with their hair on fire. That\'s how many people are blowing through life. The turbo-pace is chocked full of stress and irritability. The hyper pace is not without unintended consequences. My 90 year old Aunt Willie sensed that people are under much more of a strain today compared to earlier less affluent, less rushed times. She noticed people formerly enjoyed life more, even though they had less, but also were less stressed. A reason for stress is the so-called gap factor. Stress is that gap between unrealistic expectations and.......

I apologize...
Posted on April 17, 2015
Back in November, when we had the Men Who Win Advance, I promised those who attended that we would have the audio from all of our great speakers posted within a few weeks. I am so sorry. It has taken much longer than it should have. It is my fault. But I am very excited it is posted. Whether you attended the Advance or not you will enjoy the audio. There are some life changing lessons packed in......

Bro, Pray This for Your Wife
Posted on April 1, 2015
Father, I said, Til death do us part -- I want to mean it. Help me love you more than her, and her more than anyone or anything else. Help me bring her into Your presence today. Make us one, like You are three-in-one. I want to hear her, cherish her, and serve her -- So she would love You more and we can bring You glory. Amen.** This prayer is pretty extraordinary. Think of the radical......

THREE THINGS MEN WANT
Posted on March 6, 2015
The Three Men Want 1. Food - A man can go out and kill something and drag it home but (in most cases) he wants the woman to cook it. 2. Sex - He wants sex as a dog wants water. He needs it mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually 3. Recognition of his accomplishments - A man needs a cheerleader much like a sports team has a cheerleader; to cheer him on in good times and bad times; when he makes the shot, and when he misses it; when he gets the raise, and when he gets fired. A woman is more complicated. She needs five things just like a man needs his three. If her man gives her these five, she usually will lay down......

A Destructive Habit
Posted on February 5, 2015
Although my Dad was a really good man, he passed along to me an anger habit. Even after I became a whole-hearted follower of Christ, the stronghold consistently dogged me and damaged my relationships. Upon each recurrence I\'d always be remorseful, but I\'d still struggle with anger much more than what I desired (Romans 7:15-16). What brought things to a head was a blow-up in which I verbally assaulted my two step-sons. At that moment, God convicted me of my dire need for a radical solution. God\'s solution turned out to be in a book, The Anger Workbook*. I took from it five truths that I have made an integral part of me. I periodically review these truths to try to make sure they stay a part of me. Here are two of the.......

Give Your Best for Giving
Posted on December 23, 2014
The sidewalks and streets of New York City have more homeless and beggars than we see in Paducah, Kentucky. On a recent trip to the big city with my family, we saw several beggars, and I wanted to be ready to give at least something and involve my daughters. I handed several dollars to a man who approached us for a handout. Rather than thank me, he cursed me and.......

A Few Days Left
Posted on November 5, 2014
I have sent emails. Made phone calls. Called in favors. I have worked hard to get the word out. Sometimes you just know something is going to be exceptional. That is the way I feel about this year’s Men Who Win Advance. This year’s event is “Don\'t Give Up.” Don\'t give up! You need to hear that message! You know other men who have been discouraged! One of our special guest is an expert at this subject. Once you hear his story, I promise you will......

Once In A Lifetime Opportunity
Posted on October 18, 2014
I am more excited about the Men Who Win Advance this year than I have ever been. It is not to say that our previous events were any less interesting or thought provoking than this year, but I think the timing for the subject and speakers for the 2014 event are perfect for so many of us. The 2014 event is - Do NOT Give Up! Do you need to hear that message? Have you been discouraged? One of our special guest is an expert at this subject. I feel very privileged to just be in his presence. Once you hear his story, I promise you will feel the same. Edgar Harrell is a World War II survivor. He was on board the USS Indianapolis when it was torpedoed......

SEX IS SEX, LOVE IS LOVE?
Posted on July 18, 2014
For a long time, I thought sex is sex and love is love, and the two aren\'t linked. I thought I was ethical when coming on to women because I had what I considered an \"honest\" approach. My honest approach was this: I made it clear, I\'m not in love with you, but I like you. So, if the sentiment\'s mutual, let\'s hook up and enjoy ourselves. Wasn\'t this honest and forthright? Well, yeah, I was being candid in what I said about not being in love, but I ignored an over-riding truth. Sex outside a deep commitment of love (i.e. marriage) always leads to......

How Much Is Your Freedom Worth
Posted on July 3, 2014
I have always been interested in history and politics. The processes of change that formed nations and their cultures is interesting and opens your eyes to many things. This time of year it is worth asking,\"How much is your freedom worth?\" We are surrounded with political messages about what we have a right to, and what we are entitled to as Americans. At this same moment in history there are other nations fighting dictators and regimes that do not hesitate to spill blood in continuing the oppression. It makes me ask, \"How much is your freedom worth?\" I listen to the news and hear people ready to trade freedoms for promises of political or social security. The freedoms they would trade they did not earn, nor do they know how they were gained. They think freedoms and rights are things to be traded back and forth for political gain or made part of negotiations to make all sides happy. It makes me wonder, how much is your freedom in Christ worth? Would you... ...

WHEN FEAR STRIKES
Posted on May 21, 2014
We guys tend to try to hide our fears by putting on our game faces --our big false fronts of being 10\' tall and bullet proof. For instance, when I am concerned about a development in my life, I ask a few tight buds and family members to pray for me. I love it that God hears and responds.... ...

Little Things Can Make A Huge Difference
Posted on April 13, 2014
So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. -1 Thessalonians 5:11 This is one thing women usually do much better than men. Men tend to want to put this concept in the category of \"touchy-feely\". But the reality is we were built by God to need this. It is what causes us to conform to the desires of others-which is one of the reasons we have to be careful about the people we hang out with. You have no idea how.......

It\'s Not God Who Puts that Fear in You
Posted on March 11, 2014
Don\'t be afraid to face the truth about yourself. God is not the one who puts that fear in you. That is our common enemy doing that - the big deceiver. Facing the truth about yourself brings only freedom to your life because once you face the truth about yourself, you at that very exact moment are opening yourself to God\'s unbounding kindness toward you...just as you stand. That is the Good News: God doesn\'t hold your sins against you! But to confront the truth and then to slay your giants is something you...

A Van with 800,000 Miles, Radical?
Posted on January 19, 2014
Whether through history or personally, you may have known people who are radicals – people who live much differently than the norm. Radicals who live with a positive trait or vision can inspire us. They display a clear calling and conviction. We all can’t live like a radical. Or else, by definition, a norm is established and that person is no longer a radical. But we can learn from those who live radically. I’ve been inspired by... ...

DO REAL MEN GET DEPRESSED?
Posted on December 18, 2013
Many people get depressed during the Christmas holidays, including men. But what about this idea of a man being in a depression? Does it seem a little unmanly? I mean, did you ever see Rambo, Dirty Harry, or the Terminator in a funk? Depression seems, to many folks, to be strictly a female domain (you know, as in moody), not really a male thing. At least, that\'s the message I\'ve gotten through the years. If I took my cues strictly from the culture, I\'d personally be in a little bit of a pickle, because I can get into......
